Specific cutlery for serving and eating fish evolved in the early 19th century in England. In 1838, a book of etiquette noted that "in first rate society, silver knives are now beginning to be used for fish: a very pleasing, as well as decided step in the progress of refinement." People of means no longer used steel knives and forks, as the steel was said to react with the acids in the fish sauces and taint the flavor of the food. Fish knives and forks were commonly called "Fish Eaters", while the serving implements were aptly called "Fish Servers".

With a fine Birmingham lineage, Fish Set A was produced by silversmiths at John Gilbert. Commissioned as a special presentation 'From the the Parishioners of Newark and Eastfield,' it is stamped with the firm's triangle and cross trademark as well as their J.G. stamp. The lace-like filigree work of the knife makes a lovely and graceful impression at table.
From the prolific silver artisans at Elkington, Mason & Co.(later Elkington & Co.), Set B shimmers with fine details executed across the gleaming knife and accompanying fork. Complete with a bespoke crest on the handle of each piece, it promises to serve in fine style for decades to come.
Dating from the 1920s, Set C was crafted for heavy use by the prolific silversmiths Walker & Hall. Bearing a bespoke marking for 'Tolton,' the set boasts a handsome silhouette and sturdy feel, at home in any setting.
