Vintage St. Edmund Restaurant Covered Silverplate Dish
Vintage St. Edmund Restaurant Covered Silverplate Dish
$125.00
Found at market in England, we are smitten with this gleaming Vintage Covered Serving Dish, circa the 1930s. Produced by the esteemed silversmiths at Elkington & Co., these divided covered silverplate dishes were a versatile serving piece traditionally used for presenting and keeping multiple types of food warm and separated during a meal. The divider allowed you to serve two or three different dishes—such as vegetables, sauces, or condiments—without mixing flavors or ingredients. The cover helps retain heat and can sometimes double as an additional serving dish.
From the St. Edmund Restaurant, this silverplated dish was part of an era of interwar dining when "dining out" was becoming increasingly popular and accessible. This handsome piece has an elegant aesthetic and could be used for a multitude of purposes, from its traditional use as a serving dish to an elegant holder of office supplies, keys, or other entryway or desk items.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good vintage condition with slight wear consistent with restaurant use. 7"D x 3"H.
