Vintage English Silverplate Dog Show Trophy Cup

Found at market outside of London, we are captivated by the charming provenance of this Vintage English Silverplate Dog Show Trophy Cup. With a sleek silhouette that tapers towards a slender stem embellished with bands of beaded silverwork, this lovely cup rises from a grand pedestal engraved with celebratory laurel. An additional garland of laurel gathered with an elegant bow surrounds a heartfelt dedication:

Terrier clubs in England emerged in the 19th and 20th centuries as an evolution of the growing popularity of selective breeding and the formation of the Kennel Club in 1873. Dedicated fanciers gathered to promote specific breeds, establish standards, and encourage participation in dog shows and trials. These clubs, such as the Scottish Terrier Club of England formed in 1883 and the North of England Irish Terrier Club formed in 1906, along with the Liverpool area Merseyside Terrier Club which is celebrated on this shining trophy cup, played a crucial role in standardizing breeds and preserving the terrier's working traits for both sport and companionship. 

Produced in the 1920s by esteemed Sheffield silvermaker, James Dixon & Sons, the cup was first awarded 97 years ago in 1928. As beautiful today as when it recognized Merseyside's finest terriers, we are confident this endearing trophy from an early era in the history of dog clubs will become a beloved, storied addition to your collection.
