Antique English Beauty Roses Luncheon Plates - Set of 4

Antique English Beauty Roses Luncheon Plates - Set of 4

$95.00

From the noble British pottery town of Tunstall at Stoke-on-Trent, we are pleased to present this rare set of Antique Luncheon Plates by Grindley in their beloved Beauty Roses pattern. Founded in 1880 by William Harry Grindley and Alfred Meakin, who remained in partnership until 1884 when Meakin exited the firm, Grindley popularized both blue transferware and floral transfer-decorated designs making attractive table designs more affordable and widely available.

Specializing in earthenware and ironstone china, particularly for export to the Canadian, United States, South American and Australian markets, W.H. Grindley was especially known for it sophisticated designs in the Victorian era. These handsome luncheon plates are a lovely example of Grindley's work during the Edwardian age, glimmering with a glamorous edge of gleaming gilt along the rim. Around the edge a floral motif in bold shades of rich cobalt contrasts captivatingly against the creamy white glazed surface.

First introduced in 1909, Beauty Roses remains a sought-after Grindley pattern that layers beautifully with other blue and white ware to create unique and creative tablescapes. Ideal for a first course, salad, luncheon or dessert, these plates are certain to add an inviting appeal to any occasion.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good antique condition. Handwashing recommended. Plates measure 9"D.
