Antique St. Clément Art Nouveau Pitcher

Found at a market in the outskirts of Paris and dating from the early 1900s from the famed potters of Saint Clément, we are thrilled to have found this luminous pitcher with its glamorous yet earthy aesthetic and lush details depicting a dimensional artichoke plant with its grand flower and foliage.

First appearing in 1851 at the Great Exhibition in London, majolica ware is richly colored pottery with designs based on plant and animal motifs. By the time it was exhibited at the 1855 Paris World's Fair, it had taken both Europe and the Americas by storm with the bourgeoisie on both sides of the Atlantic falling in love with these colorful, nature inspired ceramics. The love affair with majolica continues even today and with this gorgeous St. Clément Pitcher it's easy to see why!

Entirely hand-decorated with the rich glazes that have made Saint Clément so beloved, the jug is sure to become an instant centerpiece in dreamy hues of dusty rose, delicate blue-gray and shades of fresh leafy green.
