Bring a striking focal point to your table with this magnificent pair of Antique English Brass & Barley Twist Wood Candlestick holders.
Found at market in England, these very special candlesticks have the distinctive "barley twist" spiral and lovely wide sconces designed to catch melting candle wax. Furniture - or candles - with spiral-turned legs or trim is known as “barley twist” or “barley sugar” and it first appeared in England and France in the 1600s. The furniture was given that name because they resembled twisted sticks of barley sugar, a popular candy at the time. This set features beautifully hand-turned wood glows with a rich finish and layered patina, highlighting the breathtaking dimension of the natural wood along with the exacting craftsmanship of a bygone era.
Beautifully crafted, these handsome antique candlesticks are sure to take pride of place and light your home with their gracious elegance for decades to come.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good antique condition with some slight misshaping to one of the brass sconces as seen in the alternative images which does not disrupt function. Each candlestick measures 12.25"H x 6"D.
