Victorian Oak and Silverplate Jug
Victorian Oak and Silverplate Jug
$750.00
Found at an antiques market in northern England, we are thrilled to present this aesthetically stunning Victorian Oak and Silverplate Jug, as gorgeous as it is rare.
A truly special find, this jug was expertly coaxed from English oak by fine artisans who paired the beautifully grained wood with bold and romantic silver work. Beautifully complementing the pitcher's sparkling silver bands, shield, and gleaming lid, a majestic figural spout extends from the jug like the elaborate figurehead adorning a ship's bow. The handle features intricately detailed branches and leaves, adding a further rustic air to this weighty piece. The original ceramic liner remains intact, ensuring continued function.
Produced by the revered John Grinsell and Sons (showrooms in Birmingham, London and Glasgow) - pieces by Grinsell are easily recognized by their memorable trademark 'Cupid Standing on a Scroll,' registered in 1879 - this jug would have been used for serving beverages like ale, cider, or even water.
Handsome and stately, this jug is ready to be called into service at your next gathering and will make a breathtaking addition to any table. Whether it is displayed with relaxed elegance on the kitchen counter or takes pride of place on a sideboard, this exquisite heirloom promises to shine and serve in posh fashion for generations to come.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good antique condition with split to the wood as seen in the images. Jug measures 10" H x 7"D.
