Vintage Howard Johnson's Ashtray

Full of nostalgic charm, this collectible Vintage Howard Johnson's Ashtray is a charming souvenir from the heyday of Howard Johnson's. Hailing from different eras, each of these classic ashtrays were created by one of America's premier industrial glassmakers like Libbey for the more than 1500 Howard Johnson's lounges, restaurants, or lodges that once dotted the U.S. from coast to coast. 

Two versions of the company's logo are featured across the three square ashtrays with their angled corners. One showcases the company's iconic "Lamplighter" logo outlining a colonial-style figure lifting a pole to illuminate a street lamp. Designed to conjure feelings of safety, warmth, hospitality, and a place to rest for highway travelers, the Lamplighter theme was created to welcome visitors to the company's motor lodges. The other graphic offers a smart architecture rendering of the front of a Howard Johnson's location with its distinctive roof and weathervane. In use from the mid 1960s until 1984, this cheerful branding remains charming as ever.
