The Fight Continues
"Suffrage is the pivotal right." ~ Susan B. Anthony
"We ask of our rulers, at this hour, no special favors, no special privileges, no special legislation. We ask justice, we ask equality, we ask that all the civil and political rights that belong to citizens of the United States, be guaranteed to us and our daughters forever."
The noble work of the women's suffrage movement in the United States began in 1756 when Lydia Chapin Taft was allowed to vote in New England town meetings. It finally culminated in 1920 with the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which prohibited the denial of the right to vote "on account of sex".
The torch that was lit in 1756 has been passed from sister to sister through the ages and has now been passed to you.
