Antique Silverplate Tipping Pot on Warming Stand
Antique Silverplate Tipping Pot on Warming Stand
$1,250.00
This absolutely glorious Antique Silverplate Tipping Pot on Warming Stand comes to us from the silver markets in northern England. In an elegant romantic style incorporating an articulated floral motif on the dramatic three-footed warming stand with sophisticated engraving across the wide body, lid and spout of the shapely pot, this magnificent set includes a removable spirit burner to gently keep tea or hot water warm.
Capped by a handsome crowning finial, the hinged lid nests cozily within the upper rim while an artfully curved handle seems to dance above. Made by esteemed craftsmen at Creswick & Co., an original Sheffield Plate firm which showed at the Great Exhibition of 1851, this regal pot with its majestic stand and 'crossed arrows' trademark was produced during the final decades of the Victorian age before the company's sale to William Hutton & Co. in 1902.
Sure to have held pride of place at many a table, such a work of art would have signaled fashionable taste (and hostess success!) among the upper crust and burgeoning middle class alike. Ingeniously designed with attachment points on either side to rest securely upon the frame, the pot appears to float effortlessly above the table while remaining conveniently at-the-ready. Ingeniously designed with removable pins at both ends of the pot, it can either be locked securely in place on its stand, or by removing the pin at the back end of the pot, it will tip forward with ease while pouring a cup. Remove both pins and the generously-sized pot can be lifted from the base for a more traditional pour.
The sculptural nature of this luxurious set presents itself to fine advantage within a vast range of tablescapes - from elevated and traditional to the most contemporary and modern of settings; and we are certain it will become a most treasured addition (or beginning!) to your silver collection, sparking lively conversation among your duly impressed guests.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good antique condition. Overall dimensions: 18"H x 10".
