Vintage English Silverplate Egg Cup
Vintage English Silverplate Egg Cup
$32.00
From antique silver markets across England, we’ve collected this trio of charming silverplate egg cups. Long associated with the British breakfast table, egg cups emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries as dining customs grew more refined and individual place settings became the norm. Designed to cradle a soft- or medium-boiled egg upright, they allowed the top to be neatly cracked and eaten with a spoon—or paired, of course, with crisp toast soldiers dipped into the warm, golden center.
Silverplate egg cups became especially popular in Victorian England, when advances in electroplating made beautifully finished tableware more accessible beyond solid sterling. Households could now enjoy the luster of silver without the formality or expense, and egg cups were produced by a wide range of makers, often collected over time rather than purchased as a matched set. Their durability and understated polish made them ideal for daily use, while still feeling suitably special.
Today, they offer a charming way to elevate the morning repast or lend a touch of tradition to a breakfast place setting. Each is a handsome addition to the table, serving up delicious, jammy eggs in true high style.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good vintage condition. Egg cups each measure approximately 2.5"H x 2-2.125" in diameter.
