Learn More About Barley Twist
Furniture with spiral-turned legs or trim is known as “barley twist” or “barley sugar” and it first appeared in England and France in the 1600s. The furniture (& candle sticks!) were given that name because they resembled the twisted sticks of barley sugar which were a popular candy at the time.
