"Tea does our fancy aid, Repress those vapors which the head invade, And keeps that palace of the soul serene."
– Edmund Waller
As comforting as a cup of tea itself, we are charmed with the understated, lasting elegance of this handsome Antique Sterling Silver Tea Caddy Spoon found at market. Dating to 1840 and the early days of Victoria's reign, this spoon was produced by esteemed silversmith George Unite of Birmingham.
George Unite was born in 1798 and began his apprenticeship under Joseph Willmore at the tender age of twelve, where he developed and refined his skills as a silversmith. By 1825, he had registered his own sponsor’s mark at the Birmingham Assay Office while working in partnership with James Hilliard. From his Birmingham workshop, Unite produced an extraordinary range of silverwares—everything from card cases, cutlery, nutmeg graters, chatelaines, vestas, and wine labels to delightful novelty creations such as place finders, dog collars, and miniature chess sets.
Perfectly designed to scoop just the right amount of loose tea into your tea pot (one scoop is equal to one cup), this lovely tea caddy spoon will bring a certain romantic and elegant charm to the daily ritual of tea, bringing the warmth and leisured coziness of a country house to your every day.
