Found at market, we are pleased to offer these beautifully framed French aquatints of two iconic French ports. Made by etching a printing plate so that tones similar to watercolor washes are produced, these antique prints were painstakingly crafted to portray their beautiful subjects.
In Le Port d'Antibes, we see the ancient walled town of Antibes, one of the liveliest and prettiest on the Riviera, with a relaxed beachy feel, thriving superyacht port and gorgeous old town of narrow cobbled streets, markets and cafés. Famous for being home to the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, Antibes has seen its fair share of glitz and glamour.
In Le Port de St. Vallery sur Somme, we see the cargo being unloaded from ships at the port, a place of a rich and eventful history on the Somme Bay. Now one of the most beautiful detours in France, the village grew during the 10th and 11th centuries, and may be best known as the port where William the Conqueror assembled his fleet before sailing to England in 1066.
