Found at market in the north of England, we are pleased to present this fascinating collection of Antique Silverplate English Sporting Trophies. Given as lasting prizes for marksmanship and sporting contests, the trophies are gleaming, storied treasures that speak to the camaraderie of sport.
First, a sprightly military award cup dating from 1892, given for 1st prize to Private William Roxby of Great Britain's newly consolidated 4th Volunteer Brigade of the Durham Light Infantry.
Next, trophy B awarded at King Edward VII School in Lytham, Lancashire England. Founded in 1908 as a grammar school for 78 boys, this sleek trophy showcases the school's crest representing unity, strength and resilience. The illustration depicts a hand raising itself from the depths below, bearing a sword said to be Excalibur. Produced by premier silversmith Mappin & Webb, the cup is inscribed:
Lastly, trophy C. This lovely, streamlined Harrow School Cup for Shooting was awarded in 1918 during the First World War. The sweet trophy, produced by eminent Sheffield silversmith Mappin & Webb, is engraved with the following dedication:
