Pastis Glasses - Set of 4
Pastis Glasses - Set of 4
$32.00
Predominantly produced in the south of France and experiencing somewhat of an artisanal resurgence, Pastis is a strong, anise-flavored spirit and aperitif. The name pastis originates from the word "mash-up" in Occitan, also known as lenga d'òc, a Romance language spoken in the former Occitan region of Southern France, Monaco, Italy and Spain.
First commercially sold in 1932 by Paul Ricard, pastis was introduced 17 years after the ban on absinthe. On its own, pastis has an amber to pale green hue and is traditionally enjoyed neat or with a splash of water, which transforms the clear liquor to a soft milky yellow. Pastis is enjoyed year-round but is especially popular as an aperitif during l'apéro. On weekends, it’s often sipped throughout the day while playing pétanque (a version of boules) under the sun. Be warned, though—it can pack quite a punch!
Produced in a vivacious style with the lower ribbed portion of the glass serving as a convenient pouring measure for a standard serving, these handsome Pastis Glasses in a set of 4 are ready for every celebration from after-work drinks to Sunday afternoon's game of Belote. Sure to charm with their perfectly petite stature and sleek silhouette, these chic glasses smartly capture the essence of French bistro style.
Dishwasher safe. Set of 4 glasses. 4.5"H x 2.5" in diameter.
Learn More about Pastis
Pastis, (from pastisser or ‘to mix’ in Provençal French) is an anise-flavored alcohol-based aperitif which is synonymous with the south of France. Flavored with star anise, green anise, fennel, licorice roots and various other herbs (up to seventy total!), pastis was first produced in 1915 following the outlaw of absinthe. The drink was popularized and first marketed on a broad scale by Paul Ricard in Marseilles in 1932.
Pastis, much like absinthe, has a number of accoutrements and rituals associated with it. Alongside the glass of pastis, water is typically served in glass or ceramic carafes labeled with the pastis manufacturer's name and logo.
Pastis is best enjoyed on a hot summer's day in classic French style: one part pastis to five parts water with a bit of ice.
