Strawberries small and wild and sweet,
For the Queen and all of her Court to eat!
- Cecily Barker, The Strawberry Fairy
One of the most welcome signs of spring, the first juicy harvest of strawberries is nothing less than nature's eternal optimism on full display. In a season that lasts only three short months from April to June, this gleaming Antique Silverplate Strawberry Stand promises to make the season extra sweet.
Arriving from England just in time, this romantic stand with its majestic handle, frame and bun feet supports a pair of gleaming, ruffle-edged serving bowls, along with a cream pitcher and sugar bowl. A dramatic backdrop for presenting the rich, ruby red berries, this set was designed in the aesthetic style during the Art Nouveau period and produced by the esteemed Fenton Brothers silversmiths of Sheffield, England. Founded by brothers John and Frank in 1859, the pair expanded their ever-growing silverworks with the opening of a London showroom in Holburn Circus in 1875. This greatly boosted the firm's sphere of influence, eventually leading Fenton Bros. to be named as Cutlers to England's War Office.
Perfect for other seasonal berries, whether you prefer gathering en plein air or at the Farmers' Market, this marvelous stand is sure to become a favorite addition to your silver or serveware collection.
