Victorian Glass & Silverplate Dish with Sterling Silver Lid
Victorian Glass & Silverplate Dish with Sterling Silver Lid
$595.00
Found at a silver market in the north of England, we are pleased to offer this gorgeous Victorian Sterling and Glass Dish with its elegant silverplated base. A grand articulated finial depicting a trio of sweet posies rises cheerfully from the center of the sterling silver lid, which is notched to nestle between the dish’s tab handles to hold it securely in place. Stamped with marks for sterling silver and production in London, the intricate lid seems to float above the sleek lower vessel with its thick faceted walls and cut sunburst base, designed to help keep temperature-sensitive contents cool.
In true Victorian fashion, the regal glass dish and lid are presented atop a gleaming, scallop-edged silverplated liner trimmed in delicate beading, which can also be used separately. Crafted in a size ample enough to serve a good quantity of butter or clotted cream at table, this elegant dish with its lid and underplate would also make handy servingware for biscuits at tea time, nuts, candies or bon bons or even jam or decorative sugar. With its gracious charms, this pretty and versatile dish is sure to become a well-loved addition to your collection.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In excellent antique condition. Glass dish measures 3.25H x 5.25" in diameter. Underplate tray measures 7" in diameter.
