Vintage French Pernod 45 Pitcher

With more than 200 years of storied history, Pernod is celebrated as the oldest French brand of anise spirits. Founded in the early 1800s in Switzerland by Henri-Louis Pernod, the company became famous for its legendary spirits containing extracts of absinthe.

Both of Henri-Louis' sons, Edouard and Louis, followed in their father's footsteps branching out to create signature brands of absinthe: Edouard Pernod and Pernod Fils. Eventually the brothers merged their companies under the Pernod Fils (Pernod Sons) name and, following France's 1915 ban on absinthe, crafted a reformulated blend with fresh original flavor based on star anise, omitting the hallucinogenic wormwood.

This striking Vintage French Pernod 45 Pitcher was produced exclusively for use in cafés and bistros. Produced by the famed pottery house of Longchamp, the cobalt blue color and smart form of the pitcher were sure to make it an eye-catching addition to any establishment. Side panels bear the embossed names of the Pernod's signature mid-century expressions: 45 and 51. While the number 45 reflected that spirit's alcohol content of 45%, a level that at one time was illegal in France; 51 is a nod to the year Pastis 51 (originally called Pernod 51) was introduced.
