$495.00
Bring a traditional touch of warmth to your decor with this Napoleon III gilt candelabra, dating to the mid 1800s and coming to us from the markets of Paris.
This piece was finely crafted by Henri Picard, a renowned 19th-century French bronzier and gilder active in Paris from at least 1831 until around 1864. He established his workshop initially at 6 rue Jarente and later at 10 rue de la Perle, producing high-quality gilt-bronze decorative objects such as candelabra, clocks, sculptural lamps, and mounts for furniture and porcelain. Picard’s work is associated with the rich ornamental style of the period and exemplifies the detailed chasing and fine mercury gilding prized in decorative arts of mid-19th-century France.
Picard’s workshop also received important imperial commissions, notably supplying decorative bronzes for Emperor Napoleon III’s apartments—objects originally made for Château Fontainebleau and now held at the Musée du Louvre. His ormolu mounts were frequently paired with high-quality porcelain from Sèvres and other makers, reflecting the collaboration between bronziers and porcelain manufacturers that was common in French decorative arts of the Second Empire.
Beautifully crafted, this handsome candelabra features a two light form with urn candle cups on scrolled foliate arms, twisted column supports with four scrolled foliate legs, and twisted central pillar. With leaf motifs and pinecone finial, it nods to the beauties of nature in its lovely form.
Certain to delight on any table or mantle, this beautiful antique candelabra is truly an heirloom find!
