Found at market in Paris, this handsome Vintage French Longchamp Shellfish Platter & Plate are beautifully glazed in a striking shade of verdant green with accents of creamy natural and rich brown. The grand Platter contains a total of 12 scallop shell-shaped wells - ideal for oysters, clams, mussels or even prawns. The matching plate boasts 6 shellfish wells, along with a deeper center well for sauce or condiments.
These stunning sculptural serving pieces were produced by Longchamp in a village of the same name, nestled on the border of Burgundy where natural clay marshes and surrounding forests provided ideal conditions for the manufacture of earthenware. With a production history dating back to 1386, the firm branched out from tile and common ceramics to fine tableware in the 1830s, becoming a stalwart of French faience until its closure in 2016.
Considered a desirable collectible for more than 125 years, fine oyster plates remain highly sought after for their whimsical details and creative designs.
