Antique Silverplate Aladdin's Lamp Spoon Warmer

Highly collectible and sought after, spoon warmers were never subject to mass production and are therefore rarely found at market. We are pleased to share this rare Antique Silverplate Spoon Warmer that promises to hold not only hot water to warm spoons, but a full helping of elegance for today's table. 

In the drafty English home of yesteryear, food served with a cold spoon would cool down too quickly for those with discriminating tastes. Even worse, a delicate dish with rich, full-fat sauce could unappealingly congeal on its way to the plate! Much like the large variety of specialty serving dishes that concealed hot water compartments for maintaining temperature in service of the elaborate multi-course Victorian meal, the enchanting spoon warmer was fashioned. Filled with hot water in the kitchen, it was brought to the table holding serving pieces to keep warm spoons at the ready.

In the evocative shape of a classic Aladdin's lamp, the hot water is stored inside the warmer's reservoir keeping the serving spoon warm on its way to the dining room. While the pedestal base elevates the piece safely above the table, the flame at the tip of the lamp is designed to act as a support for the spoon's handle and lends the lamp its dynamic aesthetic.

Made by the highly respected firm of Roberts & Belk (first established in Sheffield in 1810), this storied spoon warmer promises to work as well today as it did in service during the Victorian era.
