In a style that we might consider fussy or overdone today, more was always more in home fashion on both sides of the Atlantic during this era. Suspended within a custom stand and fitted with a handcrafted silverplate collar, an impressive natural horn has been hollowed out for use as a dramatic vase. Poised within a shining silver ring, the vase showcases the beautiful natural finish and patina of the antique horn. Embellished with a delicate hand, the pedestal base and column of the supporting frame feature the fine silverwork of talented artisans at the great Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF). Founded in 1853 in Geislingen, Germany, WMF's fine glass and silver quickly rose to the height of European fashion following medals of distinction at the Great London Exposition of 1872. Understamped with an early 20th century mark for WMF, this gorgeous vase dates to the the first decade of the new century.
