Antique French Limoges Oyster Plate

Made from fine French porcelain and painted entirely by hand, this decorative piece originates from the late 19th century, when impressing guests with a decadent plate of oysters was at the height of popularity.

Beautifully glazed in creamy white, the plate's 5 wells depict a free-formed organic oyster shell shape. Hand-painted decoration in deep red with cheerful pinks and fresh greens form a dramatic backdrop to the shimmering oyster wells. A dark, inky charcoal rims the rough outer shells, while gleaming touches of gilt dance between the wells.
