Found at market in England, this Antique Jasperware Matchstrike was produced by the the now-shuttered Dudson Brothers of England. Established on Hope Street in Hanley, England, in 1898, Dudson Brothers produced Staffordshire earthenware and Jasperware pottery - specialty pottery that collectors appreciate to this day.

With its captivating earthy blue-green color and neo-classical jasperware motif, this exceptional match strike is as functional as it is lovely: simply swipe a strike-anywhere match against the ridged, unglazed center match well to spark the flame in elegant antique style. This rare antique treasure from the artisanal potters at Dudson, will be the perfect addition for the bar, the living room, or the kitchen.

A type of fine-grained, unglazed stoneware introduced by the English potter Josiah Wedgwood in 1775, Jasperware derives its name from the fact that it resembles the natural stone jasper in its hardness.  

Jasper is white in its natural state and is stained with metallic oxide coloring agents. The most common shade is pale blue, but dark blue, lilac, sage green, black, and yellow were also used. 

Decorations, typically Neoclassical in style and usually white, were made in separate molds and applied to the body of the piece. Objects made of jasper were varied and included not only biscuit barrels, but also vases, plaques, cameos, furniture mounts, and portrait medallions.
