1933 English "Muddling Through" Silverplate Shaker
$425.00
A delightful example of English silverplate, this charming turned engine cocktail shaker was originally a handsome gift, presented in November 1933 by the members of the British Legion in the Yorkshire town of Otley to one of their revered members, Guy Dawson.
Founded in 1921 in the aftermath of the First World War, the British Legion—now known as the Royal British Legion—was established to support the millions of servicemen and women returning to civilian life. Formed through the merger of several veterans’ organizations, the Legion sought to provide practical assistance while also giving former service members a collective voice. Over time, it became a central presence in Britain’s culture of remembrance, most notably through the annual Poppy Appeal, which began in the early 1920s and remains one of the nation’s most enduring symbols of respect and gratitude.
Perfect for the well-appointed home bar, this exceptional vintage silverplate cocktail shaker captures all the glamour of the 1930s cocktail era while serving as a charming reminder that we’re all just muddling through. Its engine-turned body is elegant and eye-catching, and it is topped with a handsome, embellished lid and cap. Produced in England with meticulous attention to detail by Pinder Brothers Ltd., a renowned Sheffield-based manufacturer of pewterware and silverware still family-owned after 140 years, the shaker reflects the company’s long tradition of quality.
With its lovely history and refined design, this handsome shaker is sure to serve your favorite libations in style.
