Antique Silverplate Candlesticks - Set of 2
$495.00
It’s hard to imagine our lives completely without the modern convenience of electricity and the ease of lighting a room with the flick of a switch - but before electric lighting was commonplace, people relied on candlelight to find their way in the dark. How candles and candleholders were designed and used throughout history prior to electricity was very well thought out with a myriad of candle holders, each of which had specific design characteristics and served a specific purpose.
A happy summer find in England, this statuesque pair of Antique English Silverplate Candlesticks brings to mind the timeless appeal of the neoclassical era. Produced by silversmiths at the long-shuttered William Hutton & Sons of Sheffield, England with traditional Robert Adams-inspired corinthian columns that rise above graduated square plinth pedestals, these slender candle holders are adorned with a reed pattern and accented by a row of subtle beading that encircles each stem. Floating above, crowning capitals culminate in a striking motif that combines elements of egg and dart, acanthus leaf and a sweeping garland to simulate Greek marble columns.
Complete with removable bobeches to catch unsightly drips, this beautiful matched pair is ideally suited for the dining table or display on the sideboard. With a grand presence that promises to grow more exquisite with time, these resplendent candlesticks are sure to elevate every occasion with their grace and magnificence.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Set of 2. In very good antique condition. Each candlestick measures 11.5"H x 5" x 5" at the base.
