From a lively market in northern England, we were delighted to find this festive Victorian Silverplate Milk & Sugar Set with its finely articulated silverwork. Gleaming with Dickensian holiday glamor, this smart set includes a handsome botanical design of acorns and other natural elements swirling around the visible perimeter. Ensconced within a central medallion on each piece, a country gentleman out on the hunt with his tall hat and rifle, walks at great stride past a plank fence. Equally exquisite, the surface rims and handles have been embellished with petite florals, acanthus leaf and exuberant flourishes. Playfully executed claw feet elevate each vessel to rise above the table surface.

Crafted by expert makers at Thomas Russell & Co, originally founded in 1822 as Bailie Thomas Russell at Hunter Square, Edinburgh, Scotland, this majestic set dates from the late Victorian era when table setting was elevated to an art by exacting hostesses.
