Victorian English Sterling Silver and Cut Glass Biscuit Barrel
$695.00
Before America had the cookie jar, Great Britain had the Biscuit Barrel. While our cookie jars tend to be whimsical or homey, the biscuit barrel has always been more classic and even austere in its design. This majestic Victorian English Sterling Silver and Cut Glass Biscuit Barrel recently arrived in the shop from auction in the north of England. With its magnificent crystal body embellished with exacting diamonte cuts that shimmer from every angle, this lovely biscuit barrel is sure to sparkle in every light.
The gleaming sterling lid adds glamorous and richness, from the expertly articulated design to the grand finial, while the grandly embellished swing handle allows transport with elegance and ease. Expertly crafted by the long-shuttered Boardman, Glossop & Sons silversmiths of Sheffield, this exceptional biscuit barrel is sidestamped with the firm's late 19th century mark alongside that of the Sheffield assay office and production in the year 1901.
Impressive on display and a joy to use, this versatile vessel would also serve handsomely as an ice bucket or coffee pod corral. Sure to become a treasured heirloom and outstanding addition to any collection, it promises to take pride of place for many generations to come.
