The name Gitanes refers to a woman of the Romani people and the cigarette brand has long been a fixture throughout France, stirring heady visions of glamorous old film stars and effortlessly chic French living. One by one the Gitanes cigarette factories of France have all closed and today there remains only one factory in the Netherlands where the cigarettes are still in production.
