Victorian Silverplate Centerpiece Basket
$450.00
A rare find for sure, this magnificent Victorian Silverplate Centerpiece Basket is striking to behold. With its lush grapevine embellishments crafted entirely by hand, this majestic basket promises to make a stunning addition to your silver collection.
Lovingly fashioned by talented artisans at the great George Richmond Collis & Co. of Birmingham and London, England, this is a magnificent piece of craftsmanship dating from the mid-1800s (sometime after 1854 when Collin & Co's Regent Street location was opened).
Collis & Co produced a wide range of goods, described in an 1839 advertisement as "Articles in the highest classes of the arts, in Gold, Silver, Plated Bronze & Or-Molu....". and in an 1849 advertisement "Manufacturers of Gold and Silver Services of Every Descriptions, Platers by the new process of Electro Plate on fine German Silver...". It was noted that "Strangers of Respectabilty are Permitted to View the Show Rooms & Manufactory." Perhaps most notably of all their many goods sold over the years, the first Stanley Cup was purchased at Collis & Co. for ten guineas!
With its storied provenance, we are confident this romantic treasure will create a memorable focal point whether filled with fruits, flowers, or holiday décor. It is sure to be a sparkling centerpiece wherever it is displayed and bring joy for many years to come.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. 12"D x 12"H (handle raised), 5"H with handle down. In very good antique condition.
