Antique English Copper Lusterware Pastoral Creamer

Lusterware has long been prized for its beautiful iridescence and the way it captures the light. Examples of pottery decorated with metallic glazes can be found in the Middle East as far back as the 9th century. The technique eventually made its way to Europe and by the 19th century lusterware was in full production in England with Spode and Wedgwood leading the way.
Copper lusterware was particularly popular in Victorian America as gaslight was first being introduced into the homes of the wealthy. It was fashionable to arrange groupings of copper lusterware on a mirrored platform in the center of the dining room table below the chandelier. The gaslight above accentuated the lustrousness and created a rich, warm ambiance - sure to impress the guests at a dinner party.
From England, we are under the lustrous spell of this charming Antique Copper Lusterware Creamer. Dating from the 19th century, the small pitcher is embossed and hand-painted on both sides with a lovely pastoral scene set within a wide, cobalt blue band. With delicate bead detailing trimming the creamer, it is sure to add a gleaming touch of historic elegance wherever it is displayed.
Please note, each creamer is hand-painted with the same scene on both sides. On one side, the figure's dress is more orange, while on the other side of the same creamer, the dress is more purple. The hand-painted details and colors vary slightly, but all the pitchers are essentially the same. Please allow us to choose the specific creamer for you.
