An exquisite example of bone china artistry, this Vintage Limited Edition Royal Wedding Loving Cup was expertly produced by Paragon China to celebrate the 1981 marriage of the then Lady Diana Spencer to Prince Charles, son of Queen Elizabeth II. Gleaming on either side with articulated handles executed in a golden lion motif, this attractive souvenir remains nestled in its original deep burgundy presentation box. Lined with satin and embellished with gilt, the collectors' case opens to display both the cup and its accompanying Certificate of Authenticity in grand fashion.
Adorned in bright colors against the crisp white porcelain, a pair of portrait medallions emerge from among heraldic and botanic embellishments on the primary side of the cup. On the opposite side, a coat of arms is surmounted above the motto 'Ich Dien,' meaning 'I Serve.' The inner edge of this magnificent loving cup is smartly rimmed in a regal red background with the names 'Lady Diana Spencer' and 'The Prince of Wales.' Displayed within the cavity of the loving cup's resplendent handles, a commemoration notes the date and location of the ceremony.
On the lavish exterior of this lovely vessel, rims of gleaming bands of gold encircle the upper and lower perimeter. while the underside bears Paragon's Royal Warrants along with the number 421, marking the cup as number 421 out of 750. A Stoke-on-Trent manufacturer of bone china from 1919 to 1960 before its acquisition by Royal Doulton, Paragon was granted an impressive number of Royal Warrants by members of the Royal Family beginning in 1926.
