Opening originally as the Onondaga Pottery Company (O.P. Co.) in 1871, this pioneering china manufacturer would eventually make the town of Syracuse, New York synonymous with American-made fine china. Named Onondaga after the county the company was located in, O.P. Co. would develop a new elegantly translucent chinaware in 1885 that put O.P. Co. on the world map.
By the early 1890s they were the first American company to produce vitreous china, and by 1895 “Syracuse China” appeared as the back-stamp. All of this led to O.P. Co.’s china being used in hotels, clubs, airplanes, trains, cruise ships, and restaurants all over the world.
From the great Syracuse China Company, we are pleased to offer this lovely set of 12 dinner plates in their charming Coralbel pattern. On Syracuse China's creamy Old Ivory body, the plates are decorated at center with cheerful, stylized bell flower blooms in shades of pink and purple. Bright green leaves and stems are accented by a stripe in the same fresh hue ringing the verge of the plate, along with a thin complimentary band of copper-brown. Trimmed at the edge in platinum, the plates share their whimsical mid-century aesthetic and are sure to bring a playful charm to your table today.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. 10" diameter. Handwashing recommended to preserve their very good vintage condition.
