Vintage Silverplate Toast Rack with Jam and Butter Dish
Vintage Silverplate Toast Rack with Jam and Butter Dish
SOLD
Found at a silver market in northern England, this cheerful Vintage Silverplate Toast Rack with its shapely butter dish and spoon is a charming treasure. With a decorative handle for ease of transport to the table and a handy dish for ensuring butter or jam (or both!) are readily on hand, this lovely caddy rises gracefully to pack maximum function in a petite footprint.
Set within the lower cavity of the shapely silver frame, a creamy porcelain jam and butter dish adorned with delicately painted tulips is easily removable for setting at one's place whether dining seul or à deux. The gleaming rack above holds up to four perfectly toasted (English) muffins, crumpets or slices of your favorite pain grillé, while the well of the dainty dish hovering just below could make an useful vessel for butter, encouraging it to soften slightly beneath the warm toast.
An enchanting and very English collaboration between English silversmith and luxury retailer, Finnigan's Ltd. of London and Manchester, and exalted potter, Royal Doulton, this stylish serving piece dates from the early mid-century era. Although specifically designed to hold slices of toast and their attendant accoutrements, we also love the idea of turning this rack into a desk accessory. Whether it holds mail and paperclips; correspondence cards, envelopes and stamps, treasured photographs and trinkets, or becomes a beloved staple on the morning table, this charming tiered caddy is certain to bring beauty and grace wherever it is found.
One-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Circa 1936. In very good vintage condition. Frame measures 6.5" H x 5.5" at widest point.
