Who lives in Drury Lane?

This delightful Silverplate Muffin Dish was a beautiful find for sure. With a lovely, alluring shape and intricate detail, this gorgeous dish is sure to bring beauty and grace to your breakfast table.

In Victorian England, many households had their fresh foods delivered daily - and muffins were no exception, being delivered door-to-door by the muffin man. The muffins, however, were not the sweet, cupcake-like baked goods we call muffins today. They were what we know as "English muffins" - which in England are referred to simply as muffins.

Since muffins are best served warm, and since the Victorians had a specific serving piece for every item on their table, the muffin dish was born.

This elegantly gleaming muffin dish consists of three parts: the base; into this fits a tray; and the whole is then covered by a dome lid. To keep the muffins warm, hot water is poured into the base, the tray for the muffins is placed over the water, and the lid then keeps them warm during breakfast! The tray has a single handle which allows it to also serve as a lid when a shorter stack of muffins is being served and there is no need to add hot water to keep them warm.

The perfect serving dish for your freshly toasted muffins, this vintage find will serve you well with all the loveliness of a time gone by.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In excellent restored condition. 8 1/8" widest at base, 5 3/4" insert, 1 5/8" at deepest, 3 1/4" at tallest.
