Situated along England's northwest Irish Sea coast, is the seaside resort town of Blackpool. It was a sleepy little hamlet until the mid-1700s, when it became fashionable in England to travel to the coast during the summer months and bathe in the salty sea waters on the town's 7 miles of sandy beaches. When a railway was built in 1840 connecting Blackpool with the industrialized cities in the north of England, it became a major city center.
As a result, the Blackpool and Fylde College was founded in 1892. Still considered among the top Universities in the U.K., the school has long been renowned for its Hospitality and Catering program, which is a part of The Blackpool Technical College. Here, students have been taking courses such as Professional Cookery, Beverage Service, Patisserie and Confectionery, and Meat and Poultry Skills for over 100 years.
From the Blackpool Technical College, we are pleased to offer this handsome Vintage Silverplate Asparagus Tong. Once lovingly used by England's most celebrated catering students, this delightful asparagus tong will neatly serve individual spears in a truly proper fashion. The tongs are side-marked with the Blackpool Technical College monogram and are certain to become a treasured part of your collection.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good restored condition. 4 1/2" in length.
