"Your World Awaits"
"Tout Un Monde Vous Attend"

In the beginning, it was all about connecting the vast country of Canada with itself. The job of linking the cities on the Atlantic coast with those on the Pacific coast, had begun some 50 years earlier by Canada's great railways and with the growth of air travel, it was only natural that Canada should also have a trans-continental flag carrier. And so, in 1936 the federal government created a subsidiary of the Canadian National Railway and called it Trans-Canada Airlines.

With 3 planes and airline executives brought in from United and American Airlines, Trans-Canada Airlines began operations. First with short flights hauling mail and a few passengers between Vancouver and Seattle and within a few years, service included transcontinental routes between Montreal and Vancouver.

By 1964, Trans-Canada had grown to become the country's national airline and on January 1, 1965, the airline's name was officially changed to Air Canada.

Today, Air Canada operates more than 1,500 flights daily and is the world's ninth-largest passenger airline. Proudly bearing the iconic red maple leaf logo, Air Canada's fleet serves 178 destinations worldwide.

Found at market in England, a gleaming Vintage Silverplate Champagne Bucket produced for elegant in-flight service aboard Air Canada's aircraft. Side-marked with Air Canada's distinctive maple leaf crest, the sturdy bucket was produced in the slightly lighter "aircraft weight"of nickel silver. It is certain to provide first-class service in your home just as it proudly did aboard the fleet of Air Canada.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In excellent restored condition. 7" x 7 3/8".

Learn More about Hotel Silver

Once found in Grand Hotels, chic cafés, elegant restaurants as well as luxury steamships and the dining cars of the great locomotives, vintage hotel silver beautifully evokes the Golden Age of Travel. Enduringly crafted using sturdy nickel silver as its base metal and coated with a thick plating of pure, gleaming silver, vintage hotel silver is unmistakeable for its simple, classic lines and its pleasing heft. Often crested with the name of the establishment, the pieces bear the gentle, lovely patina often referred to as a “butler’s finish”.

Produced by the great silversmiths here in the United States, as well as those in Britain and on the Continent, most hotel silver dates from the 1920s to the 1940s. Prized for its perfect blend of form and function, hotel silver was made to withstand the rigors of daily use. Highly collectible, vintage hotel silver is a wonderful addition to any home.

Evoking the days of elegant travel, there are many new ways that hotel silver can be enjoyed. A milk pitcher or sugar basin makes an elegant vase for flowers or fresh herbs on the kitchen counter. A collection of oval platters adds sparkle and depth in a hutch when not being called into service for a buffet or dinner party. A toast rack becomes the perfect way to display photographs, hold fingertip towels in a powder room or organize mail in the office. Mix and match cutlery brings a relaxed sophistication and elegance to any tablescape. Whatever the piece, vintage hotel silver is sure to stir memories not only of your own travels, but of exotic destinations and ports of call from parts unknown.
