Founded in 1750, the Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company traces its origins to Derby, England. The company began simply as Derby Porcelain, but given its quality workmanship, King George III awarded them permission in 1773 to incorporate the royal crown into their backstamp.  Thus, the company became known as Crown Derby Porcelain. Queen Victoria granted permission to the company to include the title "Royal" in their name in the year 1890, assuring the company's fine name in the porcelain industry.
