Vintage Silverplate Mason Hotel Coffee Pot

Vintage Silverplate Mason Hotel Coffee Pot

$199.00

Known as the "Gateway to Florida", Jacksonville was a winter retreat for well-heeled Northerners as early as the mid-1800s.  They journeyed south to escape the cold, arriving by steamboat, by railroad and once the Dixie Highway was complete in the 1920s, by automobile.

To accommodate the "snow birds" wintering in Jacksonville, a number of grand hotels were constructed in the early 1900s.  One such hotel was the magnificent Hotel Mason, which opened in 1914 at the corner of Julia and Bay Streets in downtown Jacksonville. At the time it was touted as the "Hotel that made a Broadway for Jacksonville". The 11-story hotel had 250 rooms and was designed with all the comforts of its day. The lavish, spacious lobby welcomed guests on the ground floor, while the restaurant on the top floor of the hotel featured live entertainment and dancing and boasted stunning 10 mile views of Jacksonville and the surrounding area.  Throughout most of the "Roaring Twenties", the Hotel Mason was the crown jewel of Jacksonville's society life and was considered by most to be one the very best hotels in the city.

Times change along with fortunes and by 1970, the Hotel Mason closed its doors forever.  In 1978 the once-grand structure was demolished and what was once the centerpiece of downtown Jacksonville was gone. All that remains from the hotel are fond memories and a few rare relics such as this handsome coffee pot.

Produced by the esteemed Reed and Barton Silversmiths, this gorgeous Silverplate Coffee Pot was made exclusively for the Hotel Mason during Jacksonville's Gilded Age as a winter retreat. Likely produced in 1914 for the hotel's opening, the pot is bottom-stamped with the name of the hotel and is also crested with the hotel's elaborate HM monogram. Silver-soldered and embellished with applied trim in the Holworthy pattern, this wonderful pot is sure to become a prized addition to your hotel silver collection.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In very good original vintage condition with only minimal signs of age and use. 5 1/4" tall by 9 1/4" wide (from the tip of the spout to the opposite side of the handle).
