Vintage Ceramic Marie Brizard Pitcher

Vintage Ceramic Marie Brizard Pitcher

$125.00

The history of Marie Brizard Liqueurs started nearly 250 years ago. It all began with a woman named Marie Brizard who was living in Bordeaux, France and was busy doing charity work, helping those less fortunate. Legend has it that she saved the life of a sailor and out of gratitude, he revealed to her the secret recipe of his family's elixir, which was said to have the power to cure many diseases. It was that very recipe that changed Marie’s life, as this anise-based liqueur enjoyed great popularity and in 1775 Marie and her nephew established a production company in Bordeaux.

Traditionally served in a pastis glass with ice water on the side, the Marie Brizard brand often provided promotional water pitchers to cafés and bistros to advertise their product. A lovely example is this charming pitcher. With a cheerful blue, red, and yellow decoration and the Marie Brizard name dressing the side of the pitcher, it is a delightful souvenir of the traditional bistro culture of France.

One-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Circa 1950s. In very good vintage condition with only discreet signs of wear to the decoration. Measures 5.5"H x 5.5"W
