Nestled in the heart of the verdant Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania, is the small town of Stroudsburg.  Settled by Europeans in the mid-1700s, Stroudsburg officially became a borough in 1815. The hills were lush with primeval forests, sparkling lakes, rushing rivers, and beautiful waterfalls.  The region's original inhabitants were the proud Native American Lenape tribes.

Given its proximity to large East Coast cities, Stroudsburg had become a peaceful refuge for city dwellers looking to escape the heat of summer.  Stage coaches followed the original Native American paths through the thick forests and along the way, taverns, hotels and trading posts were built.  Before long, proper roads were laid, steamships traveled along the Delaware River and the railroads expanded their networks bringing even more people to the Poconos.

Originally built in 1843 as a private residence on Stroudburg's Main Street, the building was later converted to a hotel and in the mid-1870s, the Indian Queen opened its doors and was considered "The Pride of Stroudburg". With a dining room and a coffee shop, the 100-room Indian Queen billed itself as "Quiet, Refined and Homelike". As the popularity of tourism to the Poconos declined, the Indian Queen Hotel closed its doors in 1968.  Shortly thereafter, the building was torn down and replaced by a bank and parking lot.

Absolutely rare and one-of-a-kind, we are so proud to offer this amazing piece of early American hotel china. Drawing on the romantic ideal of the original Native American inhabitants of the Poconos, the Indian Queen Hotel used the image of a Native American woman in headdress as its logo. In addition, this charming tea pot is decorated with bands of Native American design.  A remarkable souvenir from an iconic hotel, this Vintage Indian Queen Hotel Teapot is sure to take pride of place in your collection.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In excellent vintage condition.  Circa 1920. 6 7/8" X 3 3/4".
