Originating from a 1930 design by artist John Eagles Alcott, the graphic outlines characters from the nursery rhyme Simple Simon. Commissioned by Howard Deering Johnson himself, this sweet motif became the face of the brand, appearing on roof weathervanes, menus, glass and tableware, ashtrays, swizzle sticks, matchbooks and more. One of the chain's most memorable logos, it showcases the Pieman, Simple Simon, and a cute little, hungry dog in search of a tasty pastry.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe tumbler's turquoise blue logo, called The Lamplighter, outlines a colonial-style figure lifting a pole to illuminate a street lamp.
