Vintage French Teisseire Pitcher

Vintage French Teisseire Pitcher

Produced as a promotional pitcher for the French liquor and syrup company Teisseire, this striking black and gold pitcher will be a handsome addition to any bar.

Founded in 1720 by a liquoriste and vinegar maker named Matthieu Teisseire, the company began in the French Alps offering Matthieu's delicious cherry liqueur. Their offerings grew along with their popularity over the generations, as Matthieu passes his business to his grandson.

The company stays in the Teisseire family until 1907 when it is bought by another passionate liqueur and spirits maker, Francois Reynaud. He keeps the well-established Teisseire name, but begins innovating with non-alcoholic fruit syrups. Before along, the Teisseire fruit syrups overtake the liqueurs offered by the company, becoming an extremely popular way to add flavor to water, coffee, hot cocoa, soda and cocktails.

Found at market in the southwest of France, this very stylish water pitcher would have been used in cafés and bistros as a means to promote the Teisseire brand. Glazed a rich black color, the pitcher is decorated in gold with the Teisseire logo along with the Italianesque words Tuddo and Tucci.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. 6" x 7 1/2" spout to handle. Handwash only.
