Vintage French Limoges Spring Violets Trinket Box
$150.00
Limoges trinket boxes have a long and fashionable history dating all the way back to the mid-1700s. The small, hinged boxes were tiny, labor-intensive works of art made with impeccable craftsmanship and hand-painted in exquisite detail. These curious little artifacts have held a number of fashionable uses over the ages: under Louis XIV these small boxes may have been used to hold a lock of lady's hair or a small poem, but were more commonly used as snuff boxes, and later as pill boxes or simply as decorative objects. They are still sought after today for their romance, nostalgia, and fine beauty.
Recently found at market in Paris, this lovely hand-painted Limoges trinket box is oh-so very French! Finely decorated with a hand-painted bow and garland encircling gentle violet blooms, the delicate angled shape of the box is trimmed in antique brass with a small flower clasp at center. Inside the bright porcelain box is a single hand-painted blossom sure to bring a springtime smile, no matter the season.
The perfect little trinket box for the romantic, it will be a beloved addition to any collection.
