Vintage French Ashtray

Price: $28.00

A charming relic of French café culture, this Vintage French Anisette Gras Advertising Ashtray brings a delightful touch of nostalgia to the table.

First marketed in 1872 by the Gras brothers in Algiers, Algeria, Anisette Gras was an anise-flavored liqueur with roots in French Algeria, celebrated for its crystal-clear appearance and distinctive anise flavor. Later known as Floranis, the liqueur became part of the colorful world of French apéritifs, enjoyed in cafés and bistros throughout France and North Africa.

This delightful ceramic advertising ashtray features a soft powder-blue rim surrounding a glossy white basin, with navy lettering spelling out Anisette Gras Liqueur. Advertising ashtrays like this were once familiar fixtures on the tables of French cafés, supplied by beverage producers to keep their brands in view as patrons lingered over drinks and conversation.

Found at market in Paris, this nostalgic little treasure is a wonderful reminder of leisurely afternoons spent at a sidewalk café. Equally charming repurposed as a catch-all for keys, coins or other little necessities, it brings a dash of vintage French flair to a desk, bedside table or favorite corner of the home.

Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. At time of listing eight ashtrays available; let us choose for you. In very good vintage condition. 4.5"D x 1"H.
