Vintage Brass Candlestick Pair
Vintage Brass Candlestick Pair
$95.00
Bring a romantic luminescence to every occasion with this pair of Antique Brass Candlesticks. Showcasing a splendid, natural patina gradually revealed by the passing of the years, this handsome pair displays all the charming hallmarks of candlestick design during the late Victorian era.
Cast in an elegant undulating inverted beehive form, so called because of its resemblance to those found in nature, the hive was an important motif in Victorian society, representing industry, cooperation and loyalty. Prized for both its reliable function and elegant aesthetic, this clever candlestick design featured a wide base for stability in preventing accidental tip over, as well as a protective central indent for the hand to rest in transport, avoiding the potential danger of touching hot dripping or melted wax.
This stunning pair also incorporates additional design trends of the era, including a variation on the faceted "Band of Diamonds" motif produced in honor of Queen Victoria's 1897 Diamond Jubilee and a set of innovative slide rods or ejectors ensconced within the underside of the cavity to push the tail end of the used candle stem up to the surface for easy removal. While the original ejectors are sadly no longer operational, they are a lovely reminder of the innovations and ingenuity of a bygone era.
Sure to cast an enchanting candlelight spell for your most intimate dinners and bring their striking presence to even the most contemporary of decor, it's easy to see why the graceful and organic beehive silhouette remains a cherished emblem of hearth and home.
