Antique McCoy Majolica Cachepot
Antique McCoy Majolica Cachepot
$250.00
During the first half of the twentieth century, small ceramic and pottery studios dotted the country from coast-to-coast. From the Ohio River Valley to sunny California, studios were busy producing charming, homey pieces that over the decades have become beloved collectibles. From figurines to cookie jars to canister sets to jardinères, the pieces were created in decorative shapes and colorful glazes that captured the spirit of the time.
With its luscious texture and naturalistic green and sepia-toned palette, we were pleased to acquire two of this grandly sized Antique McCoy Majolica Cachepots from the early Brush McCoy era. A popular slip produced by the company in a range of sizes, this unmarked style depicts the lower trunk of forest trees, offering a mere glimpse of the foliage canopy above. Inserting a green plant into the planter creates a clever effect with the plant becoming a three-dimensional extension of the jardinère - a tree de l'oeil so to speak!
A previously unidentified style, this richly dimensional pot with its blended glaze became an instant star when it was included as part of the educational "Show & Tell" at the 2009 McCoy Pottery Collectors' Society Convention. Dating from the early Brush McCoy art pottery era after the company made a bid for the assets of Ohio's Owens Pottery, this richly colored jardinère displays all of the most desirable hallmarks of American Majolica from the early 20th century. Bold, yet refined, it promises to grace your entrance or library in fine style for decades to come.
Strictly limited and subject to prior sale. At time of listing, a total of 2 planters were available. Planters sold separately. In very good antique condition. 8.5"H x 10" in diameter.
