Produced for the luxury Shanghai Tang brand, this handsome Silverplate Matchbox Holder is a classic design that captures the romantic elegance of British colonial Hong Kong.

Founded in 1994 by Sir David Tang, the Shanghai Tang brand began by making traditional Chinese-style clothing, including velvet Tang jackets, for the upper-class in Hong Kong - which was still a British colony at the time. Moving beyond fashion, Shanghai Tang also produced luxury home goods such as fine porcelain china and built a brand that developed an international following.

In its heyday, Shanghai Tang was regarded as the only Chinese luxury brand, and Tang was often associated with the social elites in the West, such as Princess Diana, Prince Andrew and President Clinton.
