Antique French Majolica Asparagus Platter

Antique French Majolica Asparagus Platter

$250.00

First appearing in 1851 at the Great Exhibition in London, majolica ware is richly colored pottery with designs based on plant and animal motifs. By the time it was exhibited at the 1855 Paris World's Fair, it had taken both Europe and the Americas by storm with the bourgeoisie on both sides of the Atlantic falling in love with these colorful, nature inspired ceramics. The love affair with majolica continues even today and with this gorgeous Antique Majolica Asparagus Serving Dish it's easy to see why!

Found at market in France and dating from the early 1900s, its gorgeous, earthy aesthetic and lush details are a delight. With asparagus presented in the center, the platter is designed with generous wells at either end intended for accompanying sauces. With its unique, hand-painted hues of pale violet and leafy green, along with transferware flowers scattered across the surface, this special dish is sure to make a lovely presentation, serving every tender asparagus spear in elegant style.
